Welcome!
I’m Gaby Hill, a clinical psychologist who, over the past 28 years, has helped 1000s of people transform their relationship with food, eating, weight and body image.
I created Food and Body Freedom as I’m on a mission to help women free themselves from dieting, destructive, disordered eating, self-judgement and body hatred.
I’m here to support you in stepping off the toxic eating and dieting merry go round that so many of us find ourselves on from a very young age. Join me and learn how to treat yourself and your body in a kinder and more compassionate way.
My invitation to you…
Are you ready to give dieting the big heave-ho and heal your relationship with food?
If so, I’d love you to join our small, private group of 10 women on our liberating journey to food and body freedom.

“We can’t become what we need to be by remaining who we are”

My food and body freedom journey took many twists and turns…
As a woman and fellow human being I get it.
For far too many years I was a serial dieter. Obsessed with the latest diet fads and how this might be the real thing that would lead to the ultimate holy grail of WEIGHT LOSS.
All in the name of being acceptable and good enough. I believed this was the ONLY way for me to feel like a successful, disciplined, organized, efficient, sexy, beautiful and attractive, worthy woman who had absolute control over her life.
Since my teens,
I’ve enthusiastically embarked on nearly every single diet out there, pill popped, eaten vats of soup, powder shake sipped, restricted, portion controlled, weighed, starved, dutifully admitted my sins and shortcomings, hated myself when I put the weight back on, loved myself when it came off and placed too much of my self-esteem and self-worth in the hands of the diet gods. Can you relate?
After the umpteenth diet failure and an unwelcome return of the weight that I’d lost, I realised there had to be another way. Einstein’s famous quote about the definition of insanity kept ringing in my ears…. Doing the same thing over and over with the expectation of different results…
I come from a long line of women who have struggled with their weight. They hate their bodies, judge and criticise themselves, always talking about how weak and without willpower they are. These same women have raised families, been of service to others and achieved great success and yet they still define their self-worth by what they eat, what they weigh and how they see themselves when looking in a mirror.
I have heard women in my family proclaim how ‘naughty’ they are when eating a piece of a cake on a special occasion or what a pig they are for eating a normal size plate of food. I know that feeling and those thoughts as I used to do it too. CONSTANTLY. Ugh, how exhausting and mentally draining.
I decided I needed to get to the heart of all of this.

To understand who I was as an eater and do whatever it would take to change my relationship with food and my body.
I was also determined to heal my lineage and have this love-hate relationship stop with my generation.
I embarked on what was to be and still is an epic journey into the psychology of eating.

During this journey…
I learnt about Health at Every Size, Intuitive Eating, Self-Compassion and about the darker side of a multi-billion-dollar industry that capitalises on your self-loathing and lack of self-acceptance. I learnt about how ‘Wellness’ and ‘Clean eating’ is often just another word for ‘diet’ and how we can become so obsessed with being healthy that we make ourselves sick and miserable!
I have lost count of how many hours I have spent researching, poring over books, journal articles, and anything I could get my hands on to figure out the answers to this challenging issue. Armed with all this knowledge and research, I began to refine how I worked with women so that they could change their relationship with food and eating, change the self-talk in their heads and develop the skills they needed to emotionally self-soothe (not taught at school!!!) and they learn to treat their bodies with appreciation and respect.
AND IT WORKED!
When you shift your focus and become less stressed about food and your body, you can learn to fully love and accept yourself. This takes intentionality, determination and a good dose of self-compassion and humour, all of which we’ll focus on in this course!

Ask yourself…

I’m pretty damn passionate about helping women find peace and freedom with their food, weight and bodies. Once you stop falling into this toxic trap of distraction, you can free up so much energy, and use it to truly create life on your own terms.
If you’re ready to make a change, then join me and a small, private group of like-minded women on our journey to food and body freedom.

“Feeling your best isn’t something you can outsource; it’s a reality you create one step at a time.”

There is A LOT of confusing and conflicting information out there about what to do if you’re struggling with your weight, food and body.

Why learn from me?
As a clinical psychologist, over the past 28 years I have helped 1000s of women break free from weight issues, overeating and chronic dieting, body image and self-esteem challenges, as well as mood issues related to food and diet.
I even wrote my Masters thesis back in the day on how to help university students deal with weight gain and body image issues because this has ALWAYS been an issue for women!
I know that it’s entirely possible to end this struggle with your weight, food and body – because I’ve done it!
I have personal understanding in the realm of eating and body issues, after years spent enthusiastically trying out nearly every single diet, pill, potion and powder known to man; losing weight, gaining weight, loving myself and inevitably hating myself… AND I never gave up. I was determined to learn how to find Food and Body Freedom. I knew there had to be a better way and I kept on taking small steps until things started to shift and I found myself in a completely different place…
I know exactly how you feel. Trust me: you are not alone, and there is a way out of this.
Food and Body Freedom is designed to be realistic and manageable, even for busy professionals and exhausted single mums. It allows you to start where you are and to make slow steady changes that focus on long term solutions (vs. quick fixes)
It’s a framework that pulls everything together in a coherent and sensible way. It is:
action oriented with simple and practical steps,
realistic and manageable even with little time and
focused on addressing the real issues, not the ‘symptoms’.
My approach is kind, compassionate, collaborative and non-judgemental, with a healthy dollop of holding you accountable for making the changes you so badly want.
I am real, down to earth and have been around for a long time – I really know my stuff!
We break things down into simple and easy-to-understand strategies that can be implemented right away and are sustainable long term. I love the challenge of making complicated and confusing information easy for people to understand – I have done an enormous amount of research over the years and can translate concepts and research into easy to grasp chunks.
You will experience a safe space with lots of encouragement, loving support and accountability. I want to see you succeed!

This is an understandable fear and you’ve probably experienced many occasions where you decided to join a group and initially felt nervous. Maybe it was a walking group, or you went to a gym or yoga class for the first time, or you might even be joining in with the group that sits together for lunch at work.
Here’s what I want you to know:
When you meet and connect with a small group of like-minded women who are all grappling with similar challenges, it can help with inspiration, motivation, and accountability AND increase your ability to make the changes you truly desire.
Every time I run a group, women have said how much they appreciate the support, kindness, and encouragement they have received from group members. They also come away feeling inspired to make changes and looking forward to sharing how they’ve gone each week.
Our groups are confidential, and we all agree to respect each other’s privacy from the outset so no one will feel forced to share if they don’t want to and whatever you do share will remain in the strictest of confidence.
-
Upon enrolling, you will immediately receive an email with your login details.
Click on the link and you will be taken into the Food and Body Freedom Members’ Area, where you will find a welcome video plus some tasks, a meditation and journaling exercises to begin with straight away.

Good question. ☺
With over 28 years of clinical experience, I have created Food and Body Freedom which is an evidence-based approach. It includes the most helpful strategies and methods I’ve used with 1000s of clients to help them transform their relationship with food, eating, weight and body image.
-
It makes perfect sense that you’ve felt overwhelmed. There is so much conflicting and confusing information out there and it’s only growing.
If you’re willing to be patient with yourself, do the work, be proactive and take small steps, you will learn how to transform your relationship with your food, body and weight.
-
Food and Body Freedom is not a diet or weight loss program. Conventional diets and weight loss programs have a high failure rate and can be extremely harmful in the long run, both physically and psychologically.
What I’ve found (and the research backs me up), is that when you stop making it about the weight, and instead focus on healing your relationship with food and your body, then if you have excess weight that you don’t need, the body is often happy to let it go.
Many women with whom I’ve worked over the past 25 + years have found that they do lose weight as they make slow sustainable changes.
More importantly as people start to identify what’s truly important and meaningful to them, change their mindsets, manage their emotions, and transform their relationship with food…they report higher levels of contentment and overall wellbeing.
Our focus is therefore on ditching the diet mentality, changing your mindset, learning how to emotionally self-soothe, cultivating workable, healthy habits and treating your body with appreciation and respect, so you give her what she needs to function well.
-
Food and Body Freedom is an educational program designed to help women transform their relationship with food and their bodies.
It is not a replacement for individual therapy for an eating disorder. However, if you’ve had treatment for an eating disorder in the past or you’re in a stable, recovered space, then Food and Body Freedom will provide you with additional helpful support.
-
If you can, try to attend as many live group sessions as you can.
Set aside some time each day, each week to go through the online material. It’s been designed for you to engage in it easily – slow digestible chunks ☺.
Remember: Our focus is on making small changes that add up over time.
If you don’t see your question here, please email hello@blueturtlepsychology.com.au so we can assist you.
